Whether you’re using an iPhone 5S or iPhone X, if it runs iOS 11.1 through 11.1.2, the iOS 11 calculator app may not keep up with calculations owing to a bug that’s slowing it down. This means operation buttons won’t trigger when pressed, so mathematical calculations won’t be done as fast as they normally would.
Apple released a patch for it 32 days after it first appeared, which is quite slow in terms of support turnaround but better than no fix at all. This is a big deal if you’re a regular user of the Apple Calculator app. Thankfully, there’s something you can do about it.
Fix iOS 11 Calculator broken on iPhone
Update the iPhone
On Dec 2, 2017, Apple fixed the iOS 11 calculator issue with a public release of the patch, so if you still run ios 11.1/11.1.1/11.1.2, update to the latest iOS version on your iPhone. To do this:
- Open Settings in iPhone
- Tap General>Software update
- Follow the on-screen steps to install the latest version
There are fixes that helped before Apple issued a patch for the iOS 11 Calculator issue, and we’ll cover two of them below.
Use another calculator app
A different calculator app is a great alternative to fixing the broken calculator issue in ios 11, especially if you don’t want to join a beta for bug fixes as you can end up having more bugs than before in your system.
There are several calculator apps you can find on the iOS App Store so head on over there and search for one with a good user interface and that’ll suit your needs. There are free calculator apps as well as more feature-heavy ones that you have to pay for. However, take the paid ones only if you have to use it every day for mathematical equations or you’re taking advanced math classes.
Spotlight search
You can use Spotlight Search for your math calculations by swiping down on your home screen page and switch between the numbered keyboard and other characters. It works a lot better when you install and use a third-party keyboard.
