Amazon Alexa Was Down – The A.I. Ignored User Requests

Today, it seems that Amazon’s Alexa experienced some troubles as it stopped working for some users across the globe. The giant company did not offer details about what went wrong.

This outage meant that Alexa which is controlled by the user’s voice has been ignoring user requests today.

The Sun reveals that the outage tracker Down Detector “received hundreds of reports about Alexa not working at around 8 am UK time – and was resolved about an hour later. Most of the reports were related to either server connections not working, or problems with logging into Alexa.”

UK and more locations from Europe, most affected

The Sun also presents a global outage map which shows users who have been experiencing issues across the globe. The UK and more locations from Europe were just waking up, and they were the ones who saw the trouble.

There were a large number of reports coming from the US as well, but on the other hand, the country was sleeping during that time.

Users became restless on Twitter and started describing their own experiences with the “ignorant” Alexa from this morning.

“Anybody else’s Alexa ignoring them this morning? It played my local radio station after a while, but won’t do anything else. Just ignoring me. Won’t even turn off,” someone said as reported by The Sun.

On Down Detector, a user also said that they were not able to control the smart home.

Amazon’s official statement

An official Amazon spokesperson released a statement which said the following:

“For a short period this morning we had an issue that impacted some Alexa customers’ ability to interact with the service. The Alexa service is now operating normally.”

That was it because the giant did not reveal the cause of this issue. The online publication discloses that Amazon still has to address what happened.
