Tumblr’s application for iOS has vanished from the App Store during the past weekend.
Details on what happened were not available immediately, and Tumblr said that they were analyzing potential issues with their iOS app and they will continue to offer users updates which they did.
9to5Mac was the one that reported that Tumblr-related problems started popping up earlier during the past week.
Users were not able to locate the application while the iOS parental control features have been enabled. After that, Tumblr seemed to vanish from the App Store for everyone.
Tumblr’s first update regarding the issue on Friday afternoon and most recently updated users on Saturday evening.
Here’s their original statement:
“We’re working to resolve an issue with the iOS app and hope to be fully functional again soon. We appreciate your patience as we figure this out, and we’ll update this article when we have news to share.”

9to5Mac assumed that the issue is probably connected to the inappropriate content section of the App Store Guidelines and it seems that they were right.
The real reason is child pornography
The real reason for Tumblr’s removal is child pornography. Tumblr said that this is the reason for the app’s sudden vanishing from the iOS App Store.
The Verge reported that Download.com approached Tumblr, and they issued a new statement confirming this.
They made sure to highlight that every image that’s uploaded on the platform is “scanned against an industry database of child sexual abuse material” to filter explicit images.
It seems that a “routine audit” discovered content that was absent from the database, allowing it to slip through the filter.” Read their statement here.
