The first stable release for Tor Browser on Android means that users can download Tor Browser directly from Google Play and use it for anonymous browsing – or visiting the dark web.
Tor offers a truly untraceable and anonymous messaging and browsing platform. Besides that, you can access its own Onion sites, and the “Deep Web” as it were – a network of hidden, untraceable sites that provide any and everything from censored material, to everything in-between.
You might want to get up to speed about Tor before diving in blindly to use The Onion Router.
How to Install and Use Tor Browser on Android
Tor Browser 8.5 comes with several bug fixes and improvements, making it the first stable release for Android platform. This means you can download it from Tor Project or Google Play.
While it isn’t as perfect, there are still a list of missing features and bugs, but The Tor Project is working on these to create a better and much more stable version. Otherwise you can go ahead and use the Tor Browser 8.5 for Android, being the first stable version.
Launched in September 2018, Tor Browser for Android has come a long way considering the challenges it has undergone to be where it is today.
Back then, The Tor Project listed the ability of the browser to defend against surveillance, block trackers, offer multi-layered encryption, resist fingerprinting, and enable you to browser freely.
For iOS users, there’s no Tor Browser for iOS, sadly. The Tor Project has no plans to release one due to what they claim are “restrictions by Apple”, but they recommend iOS users to browser anonymously using the Onion Browser.
What users intending to get the Tor Browser 8.5 need to note, however, is that even though its difficult for authorities to track you, there’s no guarantee of security or anonymity.
This means you need to educate yourself a lot about the Tor Browser and how it works, before you visit the deep web. Tor doesn’t condone breaking of the law, so the legality of specific behaviors that break the law isn’t admissible.
Ideally, Tor Browser is designed primarily to help people browse without being tracked, and still access the dark web.
