Square Enix just hosted a live stream billed as a Special Program with some exciting news about the upcoming content of Final Fantasy XV.
But, unexpectedly the news turned out to be horrible as almost all of the DLC has been canceled, and the game director Hajime Tabata left the company.
Three DLC episodes are canceled
Square Enix was planning to continue the never-ending flow of Final Fantasy XV content in 2019 with four brand new DLC episodes that were supposed to be centered on the characters Ardyn, Aranea, Lunafreya, and Noctis.
Instead, only the Ardyn episode will be released because the other three have been abandoned.
In December there will be a collaboration event with Final Fantasy XIV, and the Comrades multiplayer mode will arrive as a standalone game forPS4 and Xbox One.
Tabat’s departure hit everyone as a surprise especially considering the fact that he set up and took control of a brand new studio with Square Enix, called Luminous Productions.
Final Fantasy XV went through quite a troubled development, and Tabata was credited for turning the project around after taking over the directorial role from Tetsuya Nomura back in 2014.
The game continued to be updated with new content, features, and versions.
Tabata focuses on his new project
“In regards to my next endeavors and near future, I have a project that I truly wish to solidify as my next challenge after FFXV,” Tabata said on the stream as reported by The Verge.
“For that reason, I have decided to leave my current position and start my own business in order to achieve my goal. As production of Episode Ardyn continues and Luminous Productions works on new projects, I felt that it was time for me to hand over the torch to the next-generation group of talented and trustworthy colleagues and believe that they will create something amazing,” he concluded.
