Rumors were circulating that the Galaxy Fold 2 might be delayed. While this may still be true, the phone will be officially unveiled very soon. Samsung confirmed that the Galaxy Fold 2 model had a joint launch with the Galaxy Note20 model, during the Unpacked event on August 5, 2020. Unfortunately, we have no other new details about it.
Samsung confirms that the launch of Galaxy Fold 2 will take place soon
Samsung has posted a short video on its Twitter account suggesting that it will present a new smartphone with a foldable screen. The message posted is “A new look unfolds”, and the clip reveals a butterfly, the symbol of the original Galaxy Fold model.
We don’t have many new details about the phone, but even this short message can show something new. For example, the fact that in the clip we see again that color “Mystic Brown”, which we saw in the leaks with Galaxy Note20 Ultra, but also in the clip announcing the Unpacked event on August 5, suggests that the new Galaxy Fold 2 will also be delivered in this color shade.
Then, the fact that Samsung is talking about a new “look” for this phone, could suggest that there will be notable design differences. By the way, this was also suggested by the recent phone leaks. On the front, a large screen is expected to completely cover the front. Inside, however, a screen without a notch is expected, with a simple subtle cutout for a single front camera.
The phone could be very powerful, but also more expensive
In terms of hardware, the Galaxy Fold 2 (or Galaxy Z Fold 2, as it could be officially called) could benefit from a Snapdragon 865+ chipset, 12 GB of RAM, 256 or 512 GB of internal storage and internal screen at 120 Hz. In fact, the cameras could be “borrowed” from the Galaxy S20 models.
It remains to be seen, however, how much Samsung will ask for such a phone. Galaxy Fold was launched at a price of 2,000 euros on the shelf for a more modest hardware. It had a Snapdragon 855 processor, not the “plus” version, it had a small 4.7 “screen on the front and both screens ran at 60 Hz. Given the extra specifications, plus the inclusion of components needed for 5G connectivity, it is possible that a Galaxy Fold 2 will be significantly more expensive.
