Have you ever thought of deleting WhatsApp? Maybe you needed some quiet time or just wanted to stop receiving notifications. The one major downside of WhatsApp is that if you go invisible on the app, it is not so easy to use.
Also, on popular social media platforms, such as Facebook or Twitter, users have the possibility to log out, to have some alone time. But WhatsApp doesn’t offer the option. Then, what can you do? The guide below shows you a few methods to disable WhatsApp without deleting it.
- Record a silence tone and set it as ringtone for WhatsApp notifications
The app doesn’t offer the possibility to select the ‘No ringtone’ option for WhatsApp notifications. You can either put your mobile phone on silent mode or altogether disable the app’s notifications, which is not practicable.
Therefore, the easiest trick to fix this issue is to record stony silence for two seconds using the audio recorder in your device. Then, set the recording as a ringtone for WhatsApp notifications.
To do this, open WhatsApp, go to ‘Settings,’ select ‘Notifications,’ and then click on ‘Your Custom Tone.’
- Disable WhatsApp Notifications
The second method of ignoring WhatsApp is by turning off the notifications. To do this, go to your device’s ‘Settings,’ select ‘Apps,’ head to ‘List of Apps,’ then to ‘WhatsApp,’ ‘Notifications,’ and finally ‘Disable all notifications.’
This way, you won’t receive any WhatsApp notifications; thus, you will not know of received messages or calls unless you purposely open the app.
- Disable the notification light
If your smartphone flashes a notification light, you can turn off this feature only for WhatsApp. Open WhatsApp, go to ‘Settings,’ then to ‘Notifications,’ and tap on ‘Light.’ Finally, remove the WhatsApp shortcut from your home screen. You will still receive messages, but you will not get notified by the notification light.
- Disable ‘Read Receipts’
WhatsApp released a feature called ‘Read Receipts,’ which allows you to choose to either keep it on or off. If you disable the function, the sender will not see a blue tick when you will see the message. However, this is not quite the best option you have as the sender can find out about it. This, because as soon as you open WhatsApp, the app shows your status as ‘Online.’
These tips can make it easier, so you don’t have to delete WhatsApp from your device, and it allows you to get some quiet time as well.
