Apple iOS 13 has more iPhone owners worried, but meanwhile, iOS 12 is doing great. Forbes mentions that both iOS 12.2 and iOS 12.3 are powerful updates after more high profile blunders, as the online publication puts it.
They also note that the unexpected release of iOS 12.3.1 is here, but they also analyze the issue of whether it’s worth upgrading or not.
The release is on all iOS 12 compatible devices
iOS 12.3.1 was released for all the iOS 12 compatible devices, and this includes iPhone 5S or later devices, iPad mini 2 or later editions, and 6th generation iPod touch or later.
It’s also worth noting that the upgrades should be automatic, but you can trigger them manually as well if you want to.
All you have to do is head over to Settings > General > Software Update.
iOS 12.4 beta testers will have to unroll your devices for iOS 12.3.1 to appear.
The size is 100MB, and this means that the iOS 12.3.1 isn’t large, but the exact size will vary depending on your iPhone or iPad model.
iOS 12.3.1 breaks jailbroken devices
This is something extremely important to know, and that’s why jailbreakers should not upgrade yet.
Forbes’ Gordon Kelly writes that there will probably be a wait of a few months “based on the current rate of successful iOS jailbreaking.”
He writes, “Initial problems? Twenty-four hours in the overall picture is looking rosy, but I do have one small caveat.”
Kelly also reported that there are isolated reports from iPhone owners that “iOS 12.3.1 is cutting off their cellular data (1,2,3).”
You may recall that the iOS 12.3 had a similar problem for a few users. The author says that it’s best to wait if the iOS becomes more widespread.
What’s new?
It seems that iOS 12.3.1 is a dedicated bug fix, according to Forbes. Here are the issues that it can reportedly solve:
- an issue that prevents making/receiving VoLTE calls
- the issues in Messages that could cause messages from unknown senders to pop up in the conversation list
- a problem that could prevent the Report Junk link from popping up in Messages threads from unknown senders
The online magazine concludes by saying that Apple is currently testing iOS 12.4.
