The Redmi Note 5 Pro from Xiaomi is the leader of the budget segment of the smartphone market due to its superior value offered for the money, its unique spec sheet and features which helped it to outsell its competitors. The phone was released back in February 2018 and ever since then it managed to hold up its end quite well, without having to deal with hardware or software issues.
At the time of its launch, the latest Android version was the Oreo 8.1, although the phone shipped with the Android Nougat 7.x.x installed, which was really a bummer. In the end, the Chinese tech company chose to upgrade it to Android Oreo 8.1. However, once again it represented a step behind because, at that time, we already had the Android Pie update available.
Now, the most important question in regards to this phone is if its manufacturer will choose to upgrade it to the latest Android version. Going straight to the bull’s eye, if we look at the track record in Xiaomi’s past, then we can say that for now, at least, the Redmi Note 5 Pro isn’t ready for yet another update, as it already received one with the Android Oreo 8.1.
You should also know that there are some reports which speak about how the Redmi Note 5 Pro will receive the latest Android upgrade sometime in late 2019, since the device is bringing in more and more people to buy it. Xiaomi offers only one major update for the budget devices it releases, as opposed to the flagship devices which receive major software support for two years.
So, you will still get the MIUI updates but they will be based on the previous Android version, the Oreo 8.1.
