Toyota has decided to revive its appreciated Supra brand and the future model seems to be quite enticing. The car manufacturer has been teasing the model for a long while and the final result is beautiful.
Taking inspiration from the success of the Subaru 86 Toyota decided to collaborate with BMW in order to bring the new Supra to reality. While Toyota opted to use the same drivetrain and platform drivetrain that are featured on the latest BMW 4 the car has its own personality and distinct look.
Gazoo Racing, Toyota’s racing division, was in charge of the design and performance of the car. The manufacturer has declared that after two companies agreed on the technical details the development continued independently.
As expected, BMW brought some knowledge of the six-cylinder that brought a generous speed edge to all the Supra models that were released in the past.
The 2020 Supra sports a turbocharged 3.0 liter engine that is able to output a generous 335 horsepower coupled with a 365 torque. These numbers allow the car to go from 0 to 60 miles per hours in 4.1 seconds. The maximum speed has been electronically limited to 155 mph.
Fans of classic sports cars will be disappointed by the fact that a manual gearbox option will not be available at launch. Some claim that Toyota may decide to add a manual gearbox in the future but that remains to be seen.
The 3,397-pound weight is helped by the 50:50 distributions and an optimized center of weight. A multilink rear suspension is fitted with adaptive dampers, custom-made aluminum control arms and brake calipers provided by Brembo. All the models will feature a torque vectoring rear differential.
Several performance packs will be available, adding an assortment of useful features. The Driver Assist Package includes adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring and advanced parking sensors. The 2020 Toyota Supra will be launched in the summer.
