During the Consumer Electronic Show (CES), Samsung has talked about Bixby, its virtual assistant, amongst other topics. One of the announcements that the South Korean company made was that the Google apps will be supported again by Samsung Bixby 2.0.
Which apps will be supported?
Based on a post from VentureBeat, we know now that Samsung will add support for Gmail, YouTube, Google Maps and Google Play to Bixby 2.0. Version 1.0 of Bixby launched with Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ some time ago, and was controlling a lot of support apps on users’ phones with the help of their voices. Bixby 1.0 was allowing users to play music through Google Play Music and to post images on their Instagram accounts. So this version of the virtual assistant already had integrations for some Google apps.
Version 2.0 of Samsung’s virtual assistant was released at the same time with Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and was later launched together with Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+. This version of the assistant completely reinvented the user interface and also added faster recognition. Meanwhile, however, several useful apps were lost.
Google apps have now come back to Bixby
After some time, Samsung is finally bringing back support for the Google apps to Bixby 2.0. At the moment, we don’t know yet how the integration with the apps will be implemented by the company, but probably we will see again everything that Bixby 1.0 had before. So this is quite exciting news.
We will most certainly have more news on this soon. We definitely cannot wait to get more details on this and see what happens next. After all, Bixby is a very nice virtual assistant that can control your device, so having all the necessary support apps is going to help users a lot.
