Today (the 6th of November), Apple released an updated version of iOS 12.1 for its product – iPhone XR. This happened one week after the initial launch of iOS 12.1 and just a little over a week after the October 26 launch of the iPhone XR.

The update

The new iOS 12.1 update for Apple’s iPhone XR comes with a build number of 16B94, which represents a slight change when compared to the original 16B93 build number. The update doesn’t seem to work with the devices that have already received the iOS 12.1, which suggests that the new version of the software is solely designed for customers who have yet to upgrade to the iOS 12.1 with their iPhone XR devices.

For now, it is unclear why Apple released an updated version of iOS 12.1 for the XR, but it’s quite likely to come with some form of minor bug fixes. The iPhone XR owners who haven’t installed yet the iOS 12.1 can do it by following this path: go to Settings, then to General and access Software Update.

For the Future

Through iOS 12.1 Apple released a major update that comes with a lot of new features meant for the iPhone XR. It brings along support for the eSIM, a digital SIM which will let you turn on a cellular plan from a carrier without having to resort to using a physical SIM card.

For now, not a single phone carrier from the United States is able of providing eSIM support, although Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile are looking for ways of implementing this way of support as soon as possible before we greet the end of the year. Around the world there are already carriers who begun introducing eSIM support.
