Even though Apple is doing its best in order to keep jailbreak developers from creating any more tools, security researchers such as Ian Beer are still managing to find security flaws in the iOS operating system. Ian Beer is one of the most renowned people in the jailbreaking community and his reports have been behind some of the most popular jailbreak tools that were released in the past years.
Ian Beer Reports on New iOS 12.1.2 Kernel Exploit
Nonetheless, the reason why we are talking about Ian Beer today is because the security researcher has announced that he has managed to find a kernel exploit for iOS 12.1.2 that might end up becoming a jailbreak tool.
The kernel exploit discovered by Ian Beer is compatible with iPhones 5s and later, iPad Air and later, iPod Touch 6th generation. Ian Beer is saying that the kernel exploit might allow developers to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. The security researcher didn’t want to go into too much detail about the recently discovered kernel exploit, but he did say that it’s a buffer overflow that was addressed with improved bounds checking.
Apple Fixes the Issue
As we previously mentioned, Apple is doing the best it can to discourage jailbreak developers and the Cupertino based tech giant is also going to the extent of paying security researchers such as Ian Beer to inform Apple of all the latest security flaws. Therefore, Ian Beer has already informed Apple about the kernel exploit and Apple fixed it with the patch that released on January 22nd.
Although, this doesn’t mean that jailbreak fans are not going to be able to install a 12.1.2 jailbreak tool. Obviously, this only applies to jailbreak fans who have yet to update their operating system to the latest version that was released on January 22nd.
