HTC Desire 816 and OnePlus One – “Mid-Range” Killers from 2014

HTC Desire 816 and OnePlus One have both been released back in 2014. Despite being older smartphones, these two handheld devices still have what it takes to be used as daily carriers to this day. HTC and OnePlus have equipped their 2014 flagships with powerful specs and this is what makes them reliable to this day.

The reason why some smartphone fans might want to purchase a HTC Desire 816 or OnePlus One instead of a Galaxy S9, for example, is because of their affordable prices. Nonetheless, today we are going to compare the two smartphones and see which one comes out on top.

Display Technology

HTC is a company that is renowned for using the best hardware parts available on the market whenever it designs a new smartphone and therefore, HTC Desire 816 is equipped with a 5.5-inches Super LCD2 panel that offers a pixel resolution of 720 x 1280. On the other hand, we have OnePlus which ships with a similarly sized 5.5-inches LTPS IPS LCD display that offers a full HD pixel resolution of 1080 x 1920.

Under the Hood

Leaving the display technology aside, the specs that make HTC Desire 816 and OnePlus One reliable to this day are hiding beneath their hood. With that said, HTC Desire 816 is fueled by Qualcomm’s quad-core Snapdragon 400 and 1.5GB of RAM a while OnePlus impresses us with quad-core Snapdragon 801 CPU and 3GB of RAM.

Verdict

OnePlus One clearly takes the cake when it comes to the display technology. However, it’s difficult to pick a winner when it comes to hardware performances because HTC Desire 816 features a more powerful CPU but a lower amount of RAM when compared to OnePlus One’s 3GB RAM. Therefore, this smartphone comparison is as close of a draw as it ever gets.
