Google Play Store has been making headlines these days due to various updates and changes that have been implemented.
Changing the apps’ ratings calculations
If you recall, one important change that’s worth mentioning is that the store changed the apps’ rating calculations.
Google revealed that it decided to make a change to how the Play Store app ratings are working.
The tech giant will begin to weight app ratings in order to favor those which are from more recent releases, Tech Crunch reveals.
“You told us you wanted a rating based on what your app is today, not what it was years ago, and we agree,” said Milena Nikolic, an engineering director leading Google Play Console.
Long story short, instead of a lifetime cumulative value, the application’s average rating will be recalculated in order to give “more weight” to the most recent users’ ratings.
Remove old apps
Besides the update mentioned above, Google Play Store has also been doing something else.
It seems that more and more people are seeing a notification which reminds them to remove apps that they may have downloaded a while ago and these stopped working, reports BGR.
This is similar to the uninstall manager
The online magazine cites the Android Police and said that this reminder is reminiscent of the store’s uninstall manager from 2016.
This new reminder shows up as a notification in the store’s notification section which you can tap and see a list of apps that have not been used for a while. After deciding which ones you want to get rid of, you will see just how much space is freed up.
This is not a notification which is showing up across the board just yet and this makes sense according to BGR especially if you don’t download many apps and don’t require such a notification in the first place.
