According to some recent news, a trademark application that was filed by ZeniMax Media and which might be connected to the name of The Elder Scrolls VI is being currently disputed by Jay Falconer, a sci-fi author. It seems that the parent company of Bethesda, ZeniMax Media has tried to file a trademark for the word “Redfall”, after ignoring Redfall series author Falconer who attempted, together with his lawyers, to contact them and come up with a deal.
Quite an awkward situation
Based on a recent post from Twitter made by Falconer, his lawyers have tried to contact the gaming company for a “simple licensing deal” so that they can use the Redfall name. He also mentioned that ZeniMax ignored him every time he made an attempt to be in touch with them. “They ignored me every time. Shame. Left me no choice. All could have been avoided. Just call my attorneys back”, the sci-fi author added.
What does this news mean?
Due to this quite strange situation for ZeniMax and Bethesda, we might not see a formal resolution until 2020. Because of the recent dispute, the companies might not be allowed to use the “Redfall” name until the whole problem gets fixed.
Also, the fact that ZeniMax attempted to trademark the word “Redfall” means that the company has something on their mind. There have been situations in the past when some companies wanted to trademark certain words or maybe even phrases, just in case they needed them at a later time. However, in most of the cases, companies already have a plan in their mind connected to the trademark.
After all this news came to the surface, many people started believing that Redfall could be the subtitle of The Elder Scrolls VI. Whether the next Elder Scrolls title will be called Redfall or not, it remains to be seen.
