Let’s start by saying that there’s so little news about The Elder Scrolls that many hardcore fans try to glean as much as they can from Bethesda’s announcements or comments on their current work. However, with everything put together, it all begins to make sense.
All we had so far was the 37-second trailer for Elder Scrolls 6 and some comments from Bethesda about what they want to do in the next installment. We are all sad that they haven’t released something official, but this year we might get lucky.
Even if Bethesda would release a 20 second trailer so that we can at least get to know something, that would be more than enough. Considering all the speculations so far for the Elder Scrolls 6 about the setting, release date and storyline, we need something official.
Here is everything we know about the release date.
Elder Scrolls 6: Release Date
What we know is that Bethesda is working on the Elder Scrolls 6, which is good news. However, they haven’t yet contacted Jeremy Soule, the composer they had for Skyrim and Oblivion who made their soundtrack. In an interview with IGN, he stated:
I would never turn my back on TES, and I believe that my involvement would hinge on a creative decision on their part and where they want to take the franchise. To confirm, I am currently not involved with TES VI.
It’s clear that the game hasn’t reached the point of development when it needs the soundtracks, and it is confirmed by Bethesda’s announcement of Elder Scrolls 6 being released after another game – Starfield. As for Starfield’s release date, they haven’t mentioned it so far.
Why The Elder Scrolls 6 Won’t Be Released in 2019?
Apparently, according to Wedbush Securities’s Michael Pachter, The Elder Scrolls will arrive in 2019:
Elder Scrolls 6 is coming in 2019. The flop of Fallout 76 makes a hit more essential for Bethesda, and I expect them to accelerate development of ES6.
However, the same prediction about ES6 was done for 2016 and then for 2017 so don’t assume he’s right this time.
In addition to Patcher’s opinion, the game director of ZeniMax Online Studios, Matt Firor says we’ll have to wait for The Elder Scrolls a lot more than we’d want to:
The easiest thing is look at how it was announced; it was Starfield and then [Elder Scrolls 6]. You can go back and count the years between Bethesda Game Studios releases, and you’ll get the idea that [The Elder Scrolls 6 is] not coming anytime soon.
He also added that he has no idea how the “world is going to be like when it comes out; there will be a different console generation by then, I’m sure. Who knows. But I know we’re free and clear for a long time”.
This means that The Elder Scroll 6 should come after the release of PlayStation 5 or Xbox Project Scarlett. In the past, the VP of PR and Marketing at Bethesda, Pete Hines explained to GameSpot that:
The Elder Scrolls 6 will eventually be made. It is multiple big releases down the plan for [Bethesda Game Studios].
Earliest Release Year for The Elder Scrolls 6 Could Be 2021
We should also hear about The Elder Scrolls 6 close to its release date, as Bethesda usually announces games when they’re almost ready to roll out. So, in conclusion, IF development has begun for The Elder Scrolls 6, then we should get a teaser this year or at the beginning of 2020 with a probable release in 2021.
