During its event called Dragon Quest Paradise News Station, which took place at the Tokyo Game Show 2018, Square Enix made an announcement regarding the official title of the Switch version of Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age, which is set to be named Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age S.
What does the letter “S” stand for?
Yuji Horii, who is the creator of the Dragon Quest series, has given some possible explanations for the addition of the letter “S” in the game’s title. According to him, this letter could mean “Switch”, “Shaberu” (Speaking), “Seiyuu” (Voice Acting) and “Special”.
Not all players favor “shaberu” in the game
In response to Horii giving “shaberu” as one of the possible meanings of the mysterious letter “S”, Hokuto Okamoto, Dragon Quest XI’s producer, commented on the “shaberu” (speaking) side of the game: “Even though shaberu (speaking) will be taking priority… I think there are some players who would prefer Dragon Quest without voices, and we’re keeping that in mind”. He added that “Horii will be able to say more about that at some point…”
Availability of Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age
While talking about Dragon Quest XI S, Yuji Horii did not reveal the exact release date of the title. He did, however, say that it will still take some time before this game will become available for Switch.
At the present moment, Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age can be played on PC and PlayStation 4, with 3DS variant also available in Japan. When it comes to the western release of the title, it contains some additional features that are not present in the Japanese version, such as voice acting and dashing.
