Facebook just revealed a new feature that’s called “Why am I Seeing this post?” This will help users understand the content that they are being shown up on their News Feed from their friends, Pages and also the Groups that they are following.
This will also offer users more control over what they see in their News Feed, and you’ll be able to manage the posts that you interact with much more comfortable than before.
Engadget reported that this is the very first time when Facebook has built data on how the News Feed ranking works, and it’s happening straight in the Facebook app.
This is just one more effort to be more transparent with users, and after the whole privacy scandal from last year, it’s no wonder that they decided on this approach.
Introducing the new tool
”We’re introducing “Why am I seeing this post?” to help you better understand and more easily control what you see from friends, Pages, and Groups in your News Feed. This is the first time that we’ve built information on how ranking works directly into the app,” said Ramya Sethuraman who is Facebook’s Product Manager.
This feature is advantageous also for the fact that it allows users to better understand what is it precisely that Facebook knows about them, while at the same time enabling personalization of the News Feed.
“During our research on “Why am I seeing this post?”, people told us that transparency into News Feed algorithms wasn’t enough without corresponding controls. People wanted to be able to take action, so we’ve made it easy to manage what you see in News Feed right from this feature,” added Ramya Sethuraman.
Facebook said that with these latest moves the company plans to offer people more context and also control across Facebook.
The post ended with the giant saying that they will continue to listen to user feedback.
