It seems that Apple hasn’t been strict enough in China and now things are changing.
Apple has removed hundreds of iPhone apps from its App Store in China. More than 700 apps have been removed from the Chinese App Store in the past few days according to the local reports.
These include apps that are developed by Sogou, which a Chinese alternative to Google, and Pinduodo, an online retail app.
The apps have been banned for flouting the App Store rules that are prohibiting the companies from installing software updates on their apps without Apple’s permission.
Apps’ updates must be downloaded via App Store
Apple requires that the applications updates such as new features that are implemented or security improvements are downloaded via the App Store itself in order that the company can approve them first.
Apple also made sure to warn developers about his new rule a couple of years ago, but it seems that they removed the Chinese apps this week.
This is one of Apple’s attempts to enforce greater control over the Chinese App Store which is believed to be the tech giant’s biggest source of revenue.
Back in August, the company also made sure to delete thousands of apps which include gambling apps for breaking the rules.
Apple to be stricter in China
The Chinese state media demanded a while ago that Apple control the App Store in China much more effectively and now it seems that the tech giant it started to take its role more seriously.
This service is the only foreign app store that’s available in the country where Google Play Store is banned for example.
The Telegraph notes that “Other apps, such as those for Western news organizations and virtual private networks, which allow citizens to skirt China’s internet controls, have also been removed from the Chinese App Store in recent years.”
