Gearbox might have just given away the release date for Borderlands 3, and this happened a bit earlier than expected.
Launch date leaked?
In a now-deleted tweet from the Borderlands Twitter account, it has been revealed that “Mayhem Is Coming September 13th,” as reported by Engadget.
The data seems to have been leaked just a couple of days before the official announcement.
During the past week, when Gearbox has officially revealed the sequel, they also said that there would be more details out on April 3, tomorrow.
The online publication mentioned above said that in another deleted tweet, Gearbox shared a video of a few seconds from the game together with the Epic Games Store logo.
This suggested that Borderlands 3 will be on sale, according to the magazine.
Gearbox CEO responds
Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchfork also responded to these accidental leaks and posted a few tweets of his own. It’s also important to note that all this happened yesterday, for April Fools’ Day, so who knows…
“He noted publisher 2K/Take Two decides on distribution, but strongly hinted his studio’s return to the world of Borderlands might be a six-month exclusive on the Epic Games Store,” Engadget writes.
“2K/Take Two has exclusive publishing rights for Borderlands 3 and makes all decisions regarding price-points, territories, distribution, and platform partnerships. Please direct all inquiries regarding any of those topics to 2K. We are *just* the talent,” Pitchfork posted.
He continued and said: “As a customer, I’m happy to shop in different stores – already do! I’ve bought games from Xbox, Playstation, Switch, Steam, Origin, GOG, Humble, Uplay, Epic, and other stores. To me, exclusives are fine when they come w/ advantages and when they are short – say, six months :)”
See, here's the thing – people would mind the Epic Game Store a lot less if the launcher wasn't borderline spyware and if Epic didn't destroy their goodwill by buying exclusivity rights to games they only have a shred of involvement with via the Unreal engine.
