Samsung has focused on launching top foldable devices with powerful hardware and premium finishes, but there are already rumors that in the near future the company will launch an affordable foldable smartphone. There were already rumors about a Galaxy Fold Lite, equipped with a smaller screen at half price, but now we find out that we could receive a Galaxy Z Flip Lite device, at a price half the original model. Most likely, however, these models could not be launched until next year.
Galaxy Z Flip Lite could come after a possible “Fold Lite”
Galaxy Z Fold Lite is the first model we heard about recently. It will use many of the components of the original Fold, but will replace the screen on the front with a small, thin one that will be positioned on the front cover. Also, the hardware specifications will be more modest than the top versions. That could put it somewhere in the price range 900 – 1,000 euros, half the original.
But the real affordable foldable phone could become the SM-F415, unveiled by SamMobile. The site claims to have information about an average foldable device, which will be available in variants with 64 or 128 GB of internal storage. It could use the “clamshell” shape on the Galaxy Z Flip and probably more hardware limited in capabilities. However, these compromises could bring this model to market at a price of about 600-700 euros, entering a territory where many smartphone enthusiasts spend their money.
Instead of buying the latest mid-range premium 5G device that looks like any other phone on the market, you might be tempted to buy a foldable model that attracts attention, even if it is perhaps less powerful. At least that seems to be the strategy behind such a device.
Of course, the launch of such a phone is a few months away, at the moment. We expect to see Galaxy Z Fold Lite first and only then Galaxy Z Flip Fold on the market. The next model that will probably hit stores in September or October will be the Galaxy Z Fold2, announced at the Unpacked event in August.
