Instead of waiting ten years to release some new music, D’Angelo comes back four years – during which he didn’t release any songs – after he released the incredible and highly expected Black Messiah album back in 2014.

We didn’t hear much about his next musical project or when his next album is going to be released. However, we just received a consolation prize in the form of a new song that can be found in a scene featured in the recently released video game Red Dead Redemption 2.
Music and artists
Rockstar advertised the contributions of a lot of musicians through its Red Dead 2 creators. We are talking about the likes of Arca, Colin Stetson and the drummer of Queens Of The Stone Age, Jon Theodore – ex-Mars Volta. The game was released last Friday and it kept the remaining musical artists who were included in the official soundtrack completely a secret.
Mystery and confirmation
It all began with a tweet from music critic Craig Jenkins who spoke about the existence of a haunting acoustic track that can be found playing between the missions of Red Dead Redemption 2. This morning we received confirmation that this song is indeed the work of D’Angelo. Look for it and listen it because it is extremely good.
Musical gaming history
In fact, Rockstar Games come with a long tradition of including excellent musical guests. Remember the first Red Dead Redemption including similar interludes by Jamie Lidell and Jose Gonzalez. Also, remember the original soundtrack (including the devastating song ‘Tears’) by Heath featured in the 2012 Max Payne 3.
All things considered, getting D’Angelo to borrow his immense talent to your game is an exceptional feat. After we got this, we can only hope for more with future games.
