Did you know you can use WhatsApp for more than just chatting and sharing files and media? Apparently, with a little trick, it can be one of your private storage options too.
As one of the most popular messaging apps, WhatsApp, which is cross-platform and provides end-to-end encryption, can be used to send yourself files, notes, and other media.
Unlike other messaging apps, like iMessage and others, you can text yourself on WhatsApp with your own phone number that you used to sign up for the service. How? Just create a group with no one but yourself as the sole member.
By using WhatsApp as a private storage for your files and other documents, you not only have an easy way of taking notes any time, but you can also exchange files seamlessly from phone to computer.
The Web or Desktop versions allow you to send notes, files, photos and a lot more between your computer and phone. You can record some little notes, voice memos, and send to your computer, with the assurance that they’re secure and encrypted.
However, this trick is good for random note taking so it won’t organize your messages or documents. This means you can’t use it for anything other than quick file exchanges or ideas between your phone and computer.
If you want note-taking apps with features that organize your documents, you can try Google Keep or OneNote, or better yet a third-party note-taking app.
How to create a private storage on WhatsApp
To do this:
- Open WhatsApp
- Tap Chats and then tap New Group at the top right side
- Add a participant to the group to create one. Select any contact
- Tap Next
- Give the group a name
- Tap Create
- Go to the newly created group
- Tap the name to open Group Info
- On the participant list, remove the contact you added to the group
Now you have a private WhatsApp group all to yourself and you can send anything to it, whether its files, links, photos, notes and other documents.
