How to fix Gmail not receiving emails in Android
Update Gmail app
Apps are prone to bugs, so updating Gmail app on Android is the first step to take before trying other measures. Go to Google Play Store and check if the Gmail app has a pending update, download and install it to your device.
Check Google servers
Google servers deliver your mail to your inbox on your phone, so if there’s a downtime, you won’t get new emails. This isn’t common, and it may not linger for a long time, but you can check G Suite server status for any outage updates and if there’s any, just wait it out.
Clear app data
To do this:
- Open Settings on your device
- Tap Apps or App manager
- Find Gmail and tap on it
- Tap clear cache and then clear data in case clearing cache doesn’t help
Enable automatic sync
To do this:
- Open Gmail app
- Tap Menu
- Go to Settings
- Tap your Gmail account or email address
- Enable Sync Gmail option
Check filters
If not set properly, filters can automatically redirect your emails to Spam folder or All Mail folder, instead of the Inbox folder. Check filter settings and remove those that block email flow. To do this:
- Open Gmail in a web browser on your computer
- Click Settings>Filters & blocked addresses
- Check for any filters that redirect mail and delete the filter
Once deleted, go to the Inbox folder and move existing mail to it. Incoming mail will be sent to Inbox automatically after this.
Disable airplane (flight) mode or data saver
To disable airplane mode, open Settings>Connections>Flight mode and toggle it off if it’s on. To check your data saver settings, which limit app performance for apps that need data, you can whitelist the app in data saver, or disable the data saver feature.
Here’s how to whitelist the app in data saver:
- Open Settings
- Tap Network & Internet
- Now tap Data usage>Data saver and tap unrestricted data
- Go to Gmail and toggle on
Resync your account
To do this, open Settings>Accounts and tap your Gmail account or email address. Now remove account and tap confirm and then tap the “Account sync is off. Turn it on in Account settings” message, tap Manage your Google account and then tap Add account and sign in again.
