With many players enjoying Minecraft across the world every day, there’s bound to be a few issues such as Minecraft not responding during gameplay. The game, which began a while back has seen success with support for mobile devices through operating systems like Android and iOS, alongside its PC app.
You may find Minecraft not responding when you want it to and there are several causes for this problem including:
- Outdated or improper Java installation
- The Windows version on which the game runs may be outdated
- Incomplete or corrupt installation of Minecraft
- Outdated Minecraft game
- Running Minecraft with mods
- Outdated or incompletely installed video drivers
- Admin privileges required to run the game
How to Fix Minecraft Not Responding Issue
Update Java
- Open File Explorer and right click This PC>Properties
- Type the operating system next to System type
- Download Java files and extract the file to an accessible location
- Open the folder and copy the file version folder
- Open Windows Explorer and go to the paths: C:\Program Files\Java (32 bit) or C:\Program Files (x86) \Java (64 bit)
- Paste the file you copied and copy the name of the folder you have pasted
- Launch Minecraft mod manager
- Select Edit profile
- Under Java Settings (Advanced) find the exe option and replace the right path of the file you pasted
- Restart your computer and open Minecraft again
Update Windows
- Click Start>Settings>Update & Security
- Now click Windows Update on the left pane
- Select Check for updates on the right pane
Grant admin privileges
Admin account usually doesn’t have issues with Minecraft not responding as it has no issues with resource usage or permissions. Log in as administrator and do the following:
- Go to the main directory where Minecraft is installed
- Right click the main game executable
- Select Properties
- Click Compatibility
- Select the option Run this program as an administrator
- Click Apply to save changes and restart your computer
Disable Mods
Mods are popular when playing Minecraft as they enhance the gameplay experience, adding content and textures, while allowing you to add customized content. However, they can conflict with Minecraft’s gaming mechanics as they interact directly with the game’s change and core variables.
Disable them or move the mods folder from Minecraft directory to another and reboot before launching the game again.
Update video drivers
- Press Windows+R
- Type msc
- Expand Display Adapters category in Device Manager
- Right click your graphics card and select Update driver (can be manually or automatically)
- Restart the game
Other solutions include uninstalling and reinstalling Minecraft, waiting it out, or disabling or uninstalling Discord (a VoIP app).
