Officials at the Nebraska Zoo announced Wednesday that a lioness had given birth to a rare white lion cub.
The Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, in Omaha, claimed that the male baby was one of three cubs born late last week, two males and one female.
Officials pointed out that lion cubs usually weigh about 1.4 kilograms at birth, while newcomers to the zoo weigh 1.8 kilograms.
They indicated that the pups would be introduced to the public with their mothers, and that they should open their eyes within a week or two.
According to these officials, the origin of the white coat of some lions is not fully elucidated and could be linked to a rare recessive gene of each parent.
