Exactly four years ago, Microsoft closed its $2.5 billion acquisition of Mojang which is the developer of the video game Minecraft.
This was Satya Nadella’s first multibillion-dollar deal since taking over as CEO back in February 2014.
Minecraft has more to offer to Microsoft
It turned out that Minecraft has a lot more to offer Microsoft than just a highly popular game with 91 million monthly active users and 250 million downloads.
The tech seems to have been put to an interesting use these days.
It can help employees check out a refreshed Microsoft campus in Redmond, Washington, according to the latest reports coming from CNBC.
Microsoft enlisted Blockworks to create a miniature rendering of the revamped campus
Blockworks is a company that uses Microsoft’s digital building blocks for designing real-world projects.
The tech giant named this company as the one that will create a miniature rendering of the campus remake which is scheduled for completion in 2022.
They are using graphics that are much more immersive that two-dimensional photos and videos.
It’s official, today we welcome Mojang to the Microsoft Studios family. We're excited for the possibilities ahead w/the Minecraft community.

Microsoft recognized Minecraft’s potential
Minecraft was definitely designed for gamers, but there’s no denying that its immersive nature and the ability to quickly move around and build edifices makes it really easy to see how new buildings will be looking when they are inserted into an existing scenery.
Microsoft recognized the potential of Minecraft, and they introduced an education edition two years ago.
“When you build in Minecraft, you build everything in the perspective of the player, constantly being aware of the sense of scale,” said James Delaney, a managing director at Blockworks.
Microsoft appeals to a broader audience
Microsoft is appealing to a broader audience of younger people who might not really know how to use CAD programs which require in-depth training.
Microsoft employees and all users with the education edition of Minecraft are now able to take a digital tour of the new campus.
It’s also important to note that outside of Microsoft, that access requires a subscription to Office 365 Education.
