The gaming market is about to change drastically soon, as two of the most important console producers are preparing to launch the next generation of consoles. Both Microsoft and Sony are expected to launch a new console model soon.
At the moment we are all speculating about the upcoming consoles, but not many details are known. Recently, the possible APU for the PlayStation 5 was spotted. If the information is accurate, it appears that the codename of the PS5 console is “Gonzalo”.
The information comes from a tweet published by Twitter user APISAK (@TUM_APISAK). He mentioned the APU that will be used for the PlayStation 5 and its codename. It appears that we also know the product code for it: 2G16002CE8JA2_32/10/10_13E9. The news was published in a Kitguru report.
What is APU?
For those who are not familiar with the term, APU comes from Accelerated Processing Unit. The term is used for a 64-bit microprocessors series that are meant to act as a CPU and GPU on the same chip. APU is a term created by semiconductor company Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).
What will the PS5 bring?
Kitguru mentioned 8 CPU cores and they are based on the Zen 2 or Zen+ architecture. The speed is estimated at around 3.2 GHz. It is also speculated that the GPU will be at 1 GHz or more, which means that we will get an upgrade compared to the PS4 900MHz GPU clock speed.
There is a slight chance that the PlayStation 5 will come out in 2019, but most experts seem to believe that the console will be launched in 2020. We can also expect at least a small reveal this year so stay tuned for more details.
