Apple has just pushed out a new update for iOS its software for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
But don’t get too excited because this update doesn’t do much. It’s only targeted at fixing a problem that has been plaguing a single device: the iPhone 8 Plus, according to the latest reports coming from Ars Technica.
One issue is fixed by the update
The update doesn’t seem to do anything else that’s worth mentioning. Here are Apple’s official notes:
“iOS 12.3.2 resolves an issue that could cause Camera to capture Portrait mode photos without depth effect on some iPhone 8 Plus devices.”
An update could not be any more minor than this. Apple usually released updates that can bring new features for iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS at the same time.
But there are also moments such as this one when the company only updates the operating system ar a time. The tech giant does this by deploying a targeted bug fix, just the same way they did in the case mentioned above.
This update is only for iPhone 8 Plus users, so if you’re not the owner of such a device, then this is definitely not for you.
Portrait Mode
This is Apple’s camera feature “that uses machine-learning-based techniques and the dual cameras on some iPhone models to analyze photos and create a depth-of-field effect,” writes Ars Technica.
The online publication continues and says, “It’s related to Portrait Lighting, which only works on the iPhone X, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR. Portrait Lighting lets you change the lighting, depth of field or other features via various presets after the photo has been taken.”
It seems that such machine-learning features are definitely not perfect yet.
Before this, Apple update iOS with the iOS 12.3.1 which reached the supported devices about two weeks ago. That particular update fixed a bug that was related to VoLTE calls, fixed a problem which prevented users from reported junk texts and more.
