Google wants to wish everyone a happy new year and it has released an APK update for the Play Store. The update is available to download for free from Google’s official APK website and it comes with lots of under the hood improvements that enhance the overall performances of Play Services. However, this is an APK update and it can’t be installed OTA (over the air) like regular updates.
New Play Store Update
First off, the update sports the 12.9.12 version number and it’s considered to be a maintained update. This means that the update doesn’t introduce any graphical changes or new features to Play Services and instead, it focuses on improving the app’s performances through software changes that Android users are not even going to notice.
Smoother User Experience
The reason why Google has released a new APK that introduces software tweaks to Play Services is simple. Google prides itself with the premium user experience that Android smartphones offer and therefore, it’s always looking for ways to take it to the next level through software tweaks. With that being said, we advise all Android users who get all their favorite apps and services via Play Services to download the new APK.
Bug Fixes
We should also note that the 12.9.12 Play Services APK comes with a bunch of bug fixes. This is great news for Android fans because Play Services is a key component of the Android ecosystem and if something goes wrong with Play Services, then people’s apps and services would stop working properly. Fortunately, this is never going to happen as long as Google keeps rolling out APK updates.
Final Words
The last thing we want to mention is that since this is an APK update, all Android fans who want to install it need to head over to their smartphone’s Settings panel and enable the “Unknown Sources” feature.
