Google might ditch the giant notch from the next Pixel. Tom’s Guide reports that there’s a new patent filed with the World Intellectual Property Organization that shows an immaculate display free of holes, notches, chins and other annoying elements.
Pixel 4 might come without notches and bezels
This is, in fact, the second patent that seems to be describing a notchless, maybe even a bezelless Pixel.
The latest patent illustrations of the back of this phone show a single camera sensor and also a fingerprint reader.
The patent does not show a headphone jack on the bottom or the top, unlike the Pixel 3 Lite.
Speaking of Pixel 3, the last few months have been filled with rumors and leaks from Google’s mid-range smartphones – the Lite variants from the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL.
Both of them have allegedly got their specs leaked on the internet in a video showing a pre-production model of the Pixel 3 Lite.
The video that has been posted on the YouTube channel Andro News got removed from YouTube, but it was recovered and re-uploaded by mobile.com.
The video presents a review of the Pixel 3 Lite and confirms many of the specs rumored and reported previously.
Patents don’t always have to result in actual products
Tom’s Guide explains that usually, patents that introduce methods or various inventions include pretty vague illustrations.
The drawing that’s included in the two patents seems really accurate, and it might even be derived from the CAD models, according to the publication.
The magazine really wants readers to understand that patents do not always have to result in actual products, but “if you couple the illustration detail with the fact that every phone is going bezelless and notchless, it seems only logical that the 2019 or 2020 Pixel will finally get rid of the notch,” they write.
