Samsung customers in Europe have been dissatisfied for many years, as the company offers here smartphones equipped with proprietary Exynos chipsets, considered less powerful than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon alternatives. Next year, however, this could be an advantage, as the first rumors and tests with the Exynos 1000 chipset, expected to debut on the Galaxy S21 series, suggest that it could be more powerful than the Snapdragon 875 alternative.
Early tests suggest that the Exynos 1000 outperforms the Snapdragon 875
New information about the Exynos 1000 has been posted on a South Korean forum, where users claim to have found tests online with the Galaxy S21, equipped with both chipset variants. Also, the results are then compared with those obtained by another phone not yet launched: Xiaomi Mi 11, which also comes with Snapdragon 875. Of all, however, the Galaxy S21 model with Exynos is the best in GeekBench tests:
Samsung Galaxy S21 Exynos – Single-Core: 1.302 / Multi-Core: 4.250
Samsung Galaxy S21 Snapdragon – Single-Core: 1.159 / Multi-Core: 4.090
Xiaomi Mi 11 Snapdragon – Single-Core: 1.102 / Multi-Core: 4.113
These results do not show major differences between chipsets, some results may even be in the margin of error, but put the Exynos 1000 processor in a better light. The reason Samsung will have a slightly more powerful chipset seems to be related to the new Cortex-X1 cores, which Samsung has decided to test out above Qualcomm on the Snapdragon 875. This could mean that they both use the same cores, but also that the Exynos model could consume more electricity when used at full capacity.
Of course, the results of tests on devices that have not even entered production and which use two chipsets not yet officially announced are not exactly conclusive. It remains to be seen what software and hardware optimizations Samsung and Qualcomm will make before launching these processors. What is certain is that the differences between the models could be smaller, or even in favor of Exynos starting next year.
