Everything started in February 2011 with the release of the 3DS, or the new generation of consoles in late 2012, Wii U has appeared, and after that PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2013. Unfortunately, the start of this generation console was poor. Remember when Wii U was initially dead, and Xbox One was predicted to be gone as well before the coming out? And after their release, in the first two years, nothing notable has happened?
However, it took a long time to see these consoles get into action when Sony has started to launch the party gamers, and Nintendo had given up the Wii U for Switch. Thanks to these changes, we can say that we are living with the best generation of video games consoles. Of course, you can ignore the fact that many problems have appeared in this generation of consoles, such as the lack of IP, the issues with microtransactions, the loot boxes, or the pay-to-win feature.
On the other hand, we know that’s the way business works so we should see if things will get worse or not, at least we have the loot boxes. Ignoring the business part, we can say that in terms of quality and the actual games, things are good. Games as The Witcher, Divinity: Original Sin II, Forza Horizon 4, Uncharted 4, Persona 5, God of War, Super Mario Odyssey, and many more.
Still, we think that 2017 was the best year for games. Sony had appeared in the best form ever, and Nintendo has done the same. Even if there’s a problem between publishers and developers, the games we had played are the best. But the worries we have are about the streaming that will take over. This will slowly remove the need for a console, and at the same time, the developers will have to create the games, especially for streaming.
Finally, a good part is the Game Pass that has begun to appear. This will give players the chance to experiment with a lot of titles than afford Call of Duty and FIFA, for example.
