Android Pie was officially revealed back in August 2019 and the many of the existing flagships have received the coveted update. Many of the popular smartphone manufacturers delivered the update a few months after the formal announcement but it seems that some still care about the promises they made to customers.
Asus has recently released the Pie update for the Zenfone 5Z flagship and it seems that owners of older ZenFone models will be able to enjoy a new update on their devices.
It is likely that Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra is among the devices that will receive a new and improved Android Oreo 8.1 update. When the device was released, users enjoyed the features offered by Android 6.O Marshmallow. Asus likes to constantly update its product and the ZenFone 3 Ultra has received a constant flow of valuable updates. A major software update brought Android 7.0 Nougat on the device. Many believed that Asus will not release another major update but the company seems to have other plans.
According to reliable sources an Asus ZenFone 3 Ultra that employs Android 8.1 Oreo has been recently approved by the Wi-Fi Alliance, suggesting that update may be on its way.
There is no official information from the manufacturer but some believe that Asus will run extensive tests before such a major update is released.
Released in 2016 the Asus ZenFone 3 Ultra packs some serious power. The smartphone is powered a middle-tier octa-core Snapdragon 652 processor, 4GB of RAM and a beefy Adreno 510 GPU. The device offers 64GB of internal space and those that want more are able to use MicroSD cards with a maximum capacity of 128GB.
While the specs of the smartphone are still impressive the chances for a Pie update are quite slim. It is likely that Asus will continue to release a steady stream of security updates but the outdated processor may not be able to handle the latest version of the popular mobile OS.
The update should arrive in the following weeks.
