In a recent press release, Ubisoft named some of the improvements that will come with the remastered version of Assassin’s Creed 3, which is bundled up with the season pass offered for the well-received Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey.
And it seems that company went beyond a shiny coat of paint, as the remastered version will offer new character models, an improved lightning rendering and improved open world spaces.
The game will also offer 4K and HDR options for the PS4, Xbox One X and PC users, while Full HD experiences will be available on the PS4 and Xbox One.
Assassin’s Creed 3 was well-received when it launched back in 2012. The marked the ending of the modern day Desmond Miles storyline while at the same time starting the Kenway saga. The game sold well, reaching seven million copies, but die-hard fans of the series argue that it is one of the weaker entries.
Following the successful Ezio trilogy, the game dramatically changed its setting as it shifted to the American Revolution (a move criticized by many players that did not enjoy the change). While it featured a revamped combat system, side activities like hunting and naval encounters and an improved base development system in the form of the homestead, certain drawbacks were quickly spotted. According to some sources, improvements added here like the naval combat will find their popularity in a more refined version encountered in the future games of the franchise. While naval combat was first introduced in AC3, Black Flag made it popular as it offered a better experience, and despite being an Assassin’s Creed title, Black Flag is constantly found in tops that focus on naval games.
The starting sequence was also described as sluggish by many players, and it is something that Ubisoft may address.
For those that are not interested in the season pass, a standalone version of the game is also available.
