Mass Effect Update: A Potential Sequel?

Mass Effect is an action role-playing third-person shooter video game developed by BioWare. The fourth part, Andromeda, was published by Electronic Arts and released in March 2017.

The game is following the story of Andromeda initiative, a group of explorers who travel for more than 600 years to find a new home for their people in Heleus Cluster.

Although it was a highly anticipated game, upon released it received mixed reviews. The positive ones referred to its improved visuals and combat and while the negative ones aimed at the technical issues and character animations.

BioWare did release several patches with fixes following critical feedback and as end of 2017 it sold over two million copies. This is why, since then, fans were wondering if will ever be any other Mass Effect in the making.

As per Mark Darrah, the BioWare executive producer, the developer is not that with the series quite yet: “We’re definitely not done with Mass Effect,” “There’s a lot of stories to be told. We could pull on the threads we put down with Andromeda; we could pull on threads from Mass Effect 3. There’s a lot of interesting space to be explored.”

Furthermore the general manager of BioWare, Casey Hudson, assured us that in his mind the game is very much alive: “I’m thinking all the time about things that I think will be great. It’s just a matter of getting back to it as soon as we can.”

Nevertheless, a new Mass Effect sequel will indeed take some time as BioWare just released Anthem. Anthem is an online multiplayer action role-playing video game in which players assume the role of Freelancers in exosuits ready to defend humanity from cities’ walls threats. Unfortunately, to high grind, story and some technical aspects the game did not receive great feedback and did not meet Electronic Arts’ commercial expectations.

This is why we hope that the next Mass Effect episode, if there will ever be one, will break the pattern and will be critical acclaim.
