Fortnite is an incredibly popular game in the whole world, so it doesn’t come as a surprise the fact that it’s making headlines pretty often.
Now, the reason is not the happiest one because it involves a third-party company that has been trying to make profits off the original game.
A U.K.-based firm seems to have taken things to the very next level, and it organized a Fortnite-themed live event without even asking for permission to Epic Games.
As expected, the event was a complete failure, and Epic Games is suing the company for all the damages that have been done to the brand.
Who are the organizers?
The company that organized this fake event is called “Exciting Events,” and the event took place in the U.K. and it wasn’t really that “exciting.”
Everyone who wanted to attend had to get out of their pockets a fee of $15-$25 and the only thing that they have been offered was a bank of PCs where they could play in a tourney with their pals.
Things don’t even stop here as Exciting Events charged people a cash fee in order to play the game on the PCs. Everyone knows that Fortnite is a free game.
As expected, the event was a complete failure, and it managed to throw mud on the Fortnite brand.
Epic Games and “Exciting Events” statements
“The quality of our player experience is incredibly important to us, whether it’s inside the game or at official public events like last year’s Fortnite Pro-Aim. Epic Games was not in any way associated with the event that took place in Norwich, and we’ve issued a claim against the organizers in the High Court of London,” said an Epic Games spokesperson.
“Epic games, the owners of Fortnite, have now forced the shut down of the two pre-booked future Fortnite Live Events. These proceedings by Epic Games has had a catastrophic impact on the company’s ability to trade, which has forced Exciting Events Limited to cease all trading activities immediately and the director of Exciting Events will now seek to limit the losses to third parties as far as possible,” stated Shaun Lord, the owner of Exciting Events.
